Tonight, the 2011 season will finally kick off and the first game features what most experts say are two of the top teams in the NFC. Drew Brees and the 2009 champion New Orleans Saints take on Aaron Rodgers and the defending champion Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. I could not think of a better matchup to open the season then having two of the top quarterbacks battle against each other in what could be a NFC Championship preview.
There is one reason why I love the second Sunday of September and it is because you can put the memories of 2010 in the past and just focus on the season. I was reading about how Packers’ head coach Mike McCarthy put up a blank picture frame in the locker room after they filled last year’s frame with a photo of their Super Bowl win. It reminds the players to remain hungry and not dwell on last year’s results. Also, you can look at it from the angle that a team that was very poor a year can win the division the next year (i.e 2010 Kansas City Chiefs)
When we come to know Jesus Christ and accept Him as our Lord and Savior, we put our old sinful lives behind and become a new creation. It is like Jesus told Nicodemus. In order to accept Christ, we have to be born again and made new. Take a look at what Paul tells the Corinthians about being born again in Christ: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Today, I exhort you to be an ambassador for Jesus and to tell the world about His sacrifice on the cross for our sins. When we come to Him, our hearts are made pure and we become new once again. This makes you just want to give glory to God in everything that you do. As you watch the game tonight, I wish your team the best of luck this season, but keep in mind that a new season means new expectations. Once you accept Christ into your life, then your life changes forever!
